Hope you’re doing okay. I’m Rahul Verma, a third‑year in your DBMS class. I’m writing ‘cause I need a bit more time on the query‑optimization assignment that’s due this Friday.

How a rewrite is made

  1. Step 1

    Rewrite

Every paragraph is rewritten four times over, in two separate tries, by our own writing model.

  2. Step 2

    Check

Each version is scored by an AI detector and checked against your original for meaning, names and numbers.

  3. Step 3

    Fact-check

The best version is read against your original once more, and any wrong or invented detail is fixed.

Questions

Is Penned a free AI humaniser?

Yes. Penned is a free AI humanizer (or humaniser, in British and Indian spelling) and AI detector. It humanises AI text into plain, natural English for essays, research papers, emails and blog posts, and keeps your facts and numbers.

What does Penned actually change?

Rhythm, word choice and sentence shape. Language models write in an even, polished cadence with predictable word choices; Penned rewrites that into the uneven, plainer rhythm people use, while keeping the facts, names and numbers you wrote.

Will the rewrite pass every AI detector?

No tool can guarantee every detector, because detectors change often and disagree with each other. On 22 October 2026 a full 16-page research paper rewritten with Penned scored under 20% AI on Turnitin's AI writing check. Scores on other detectors vary by kind of writing, so always check the final text yourself.

Do you keep my text?

Your text is sent to our servers and to the language model providers we use only to produce the rewrite. If you are signed in, your recent rewrites are saved to your account so you can find them again, and you can delete them at any time.

Who is Penned for?

Anyone aged 13 or over whose writing gets flagged or sounds stiff after AI help: students, non-native English writers, marketers and bloggers, and job seekers polishing applications. Follow your school's or employer's rules on AI assistance.

Can Penned humanize a research paper?

Yes. A full 16-page research paper rewritten section by section with Penned scored under 20% AI on Turnitin's AI writing check, with every number kept. Drafting with our free research-paper prompt and rewriting with Penned also took an abstract from 100% to 4% AI on GPTZero. The full workflow is in our research paper guide.

Can Penned humanize an essay?

Yes. Pick the Essay style and Penned rewrites your essay in a natural student voice while keeping your argument, quotes and citations. Our essay humanizer guide shows how.

Is Penned free, and how many words do I get?

Yes, it is free. Without signing in you can use the AI detector (up to 60 checks an hour). With a free account (Google sign-in) you can rewrite up to 6,000 words a day: up to 1,200 words per paste, or whole documents up to 15,000 words. Plus raises that to 45,000 words a day; it is invite-only for now, and you can ask for it from your account page.

Is there an API?

Yes, a free REST API for rewriting and AI detection. Create a key on the API keys page; each account gets 50 rewrites and 50 detector checks a day, shared across its keys and reset at midnight UTC. Documentation is on the developers page.
