About Penned
Penned, as in written by a person. A small, independent tool built in Delhi by a computer science student.
Why it exists
More and more first drafts are written with help from a language model. The result is often correct but flat: even sentence lengths, the same handful of transition words, a tidy summary at the end of every paragraph. Readers notice it, and AI detectors flag it, including on writing that is mostly the author's own.
Penned rewrites that kind of draft into plainer, more uneven human prose. It does not invent facts, and it checks every rewrite against your original before showing it to you.
How we judge a rewrite
- It has to keep the meaning of the original, measured by comparing the two texts.
- It has to keep every number from the original. A rewrite that drops one is rejected.
- It has to read as human to the AI detectors we run, which are open-source models we host ourselves.
Use it honestly
Penned is meant for improving your own writing. If your school, university or employer has rules about AI assistance, follow them. Penned is not a way around them.
